Nazareth Academy School Mission
TO TEACH, TO BUILD, TO SERVE IN THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST
What does our
This is a very simple statement, but one that says who we are and what we do. We teach. Not only do we teach the academia, but also we are bound by who we are to teach the Gospel. How do we teach the Gospel? The first answer would be that we teach Religion, and this is partly correct. St. Francis of Assisi adds another dimension when he says, “Preach the Gospel and when necessary use words.” This is a powerful statement for all of us to reflect upon. We build. NA strives to build character so that our students can go forth from our school with a foundation that will be the basis for moral decision-making based on Catholic Christian doctrine. We strive to build family and a faith community. We serve. Throughout the year, students take part in different service projects, not only in school, but also within the community. The school encourages students to serve at mass and to earn outside service hours.
How do we do this? In the Spirit of Christ. Do we do this perfectly? No! Can we as a school do this alone? No! First of all, we need the help of Almighty God, for we are His instruments. Secondly, we need you, our parents. The Catholic Church teaches that parents are the primary educators of their child/ren. It is our challenge to each of you to determine the type of teaching that you do, while we do the same. Is it beneficial or destructive? Do we teach our children that lying, cheating, gossiping, getting ahead in life, no matter who we step on, winning at all costs, violence, or shunning people is the norm by which we live, or do we
‘Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, it is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its’ own interests, it is not quick-tempered. . .’ (1 Corinthians 13:4-7) You get the picture. How do we (faculty and parents) teach, build and serve – in the spirit of Christ?” May this new school year find us living the Gospel of LOVE through our mission statement!
